INDIAN EQUITY BENCHMARKS on Friday as investors saw a four-session losing streak as overdone, while gains in regional markets and expectation of a rate cut by the central bank next week also helped sentiment. Government to award projects worth Rs3.5 lakh crore

Government to award projects worth Rs3.5 lakh crore in next six months – Positive for IRB Infrastructure, IL&FS Transportation, Ashoka Buildcon, Sadbhav Engineering, KNR Construction, MBL Infrastructure among others. In a press conference yesterday, Mr. Nitin Gadkari highlighted the development plans in the road sector.  The government has set an ambitious target of awarding highway projects worth Rs3.5 lakh crore in the  next six months.

Amara Raja posts robust 30% growth in net profit

Battery manufacturer Amara Raja posted a strong 20.5% growth in sales for Q4FY15. Benefitting from weak raw material prices, the gross margins for the quarter expanded by 240bps which aided in an impressive 200bps EBITDA margin expansion to 17.5%. The adjusted net profit for the quarter was up 30.5% YoY to Rs109.5 crore.

India Cements reports Rs36.60 cr net profit in Q4

As India Cements Ltd has announced the following results for the quarter & year ended March 31, 2015: The Company has posted a net profit of Rs36.60 crore Vs net loss of Rs157.12 crore (YoY).Total Income is at Rs1043.10 crore Vs Rs1124.71 crore (YoY). For the Year ended March 31, 2015: The Company has posted a net profit of Rs29.45 crore Vs net loss of Rs162.41 (YoY). Total Income is at Rs4454.40 crore Vs Rs4497.93 crore.The Audited Consolidated results for the Year ended March 31, 2015 .The Group has posted a net loss of Rs3.31 crore Vs net loss of Rs243.38 crore (YoY).Total Income is at Rs5082.85 crore Vs Rs5109.05 crore (YoY).

United Breweries Q4 net profit at Rs48 crore

Net profit at Rs259.84 crore vs Rs226.02 crore (YoY).Total Income at Rs4729.88 crore vs Rs4250.63 crore (YoY). The Board of Directors recommended payment of Dividend of Re1 per equity share of Re1 for the Financial Year ended March 31, 2015 and has also approved payment of 3% Dividend on Cumulative Redeemable Preference Shares to Scottish & Newcastle India Limited.

Lloyd Electric spurts on good results

Shares of Lloyd Electric & Engineering surged 12% to Rs217 on NSE after the company reported good results – Positive .The company reported 21% yoy growth in Q4 standalone revenue mainly led by good offtake in OEM and consumer durables segment. Led by operating leverage, OPM improved to 16.4% which was the highest in at least last 8 quarters.

WEEKLY EQUITY REPORT-18 May To 23 May 2015

INDIAN BENCHMARKS edged higher amid wild gyrations witnessed throughout the week as market sentiment was boosted on expectations of cut in policy rates by the Reserve Bank of India in its next monetary policy review scheduled on 2 June 2015, after the latest government data showed inflation based on consumer price index (CPI) eased to a four-month low in April.

Further, HSBC downgraded Indian stocks to ' underweight' from ' overweight', citing slowing earnings growth, little room for rate cuts and potential negative impact from an unusual weather due to El Nino.

The INDIAN BENCHMARKS rose 218.61 points or 0.8% to settle at 27,324. The 50-unit CNX Nifty gained 70.85 points or 0.86% to settle at 8,262.35.

GLOBAL MARKET CHASE

ASIAN STOCKS were uneven on Friday as the big markets in Japan and Hong Kong got a lift from the rebound on Wall Street, but weak data dragged Chinese shares lower.

U.S. STOCKS index futures poised for a higher opening at the Wall Street on Friday.

EUROPEAN STOCKS advanced on Friday, as calmer conditions in the bond market buoyed the region's stock markets, while drugs group Roche rallied after positive product results.

RBI relaxes norms for lending against gold jewellery

RBI has relaxed the norms for NBFCs (lending against gold) by allowing to use the historical spot gold price data publicly disseminated by a commodity exchange regulated by the Forward Markets Commission for valuation of gold for LTV calculation. Earlier RBI had allowed valuation of gold jewellery for arriving at the LTV to be done at the average of the closing price of 22 carat gold for the preceding 30 days as quoted by the Bombay Bullion Association Ltd. (BBA).

Government relaxes FDI norms

Union Cabinet on has approved a relaxation of policy on investment proposals from Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), treating them at par with Non-Resident Indians ( NRIs) in this regard. The non-repatriable. NRI funds would also be treated as domestic investments. These measures will boost remittances and increase the inflows and hence positive for Indian economy.

Wockhardt gets QIDP designation from USFDA for new drugs

Wockhardt, has announced  the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Qualified Infectious Disease Product (QIDP) status for its drug under  New Drug Discovery program WCK 4873. This is the third product from Wockhardt to receive this coveted status after WCK 771 and WCK 2349 last year and provides a strong boost to its drug development.

Reliance-BP surrender two more oil and gas blocks

Reliance Industries and its partner BP plc have surrendered two more oil and gas blocks, taking total surrender of four exploration acreages from 21 they were holding – Sentimentally negative.

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals has been granted tentative approved last week by United States Food & Drug Administration (US FDA) for its Rufinamide Tablets USP, 200 mg and 400 mg, a therapeutic equivalent of Banzel Tablets of Eisai, Inc. Under the terms of settlement agreement between Glenmark and Eisai, Glenmark will be permitted to market this product in the United States on May 30, 2022 or potentially earlier under certain circumstances.
