Negative opening on D-Street; RBI policy eyed; SGX Nifty down 44.50 points

Indian Indices:

Key Indices are likely to open lower on Thursday as investors would pause for breath following recent strong gains ahead of RBI policy later in the day, tracking weak cues from Asian markets following losses on Wall Street in overnight trade as cautioned prevailed in the market ahead of the highly-anticipated meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The rate-sensitive, auto, banking and realty stocks will remain in focus ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s bi-monthly monetary policy review today.

Indian shares clocked a record closing high on Wednesday helped by a rally in auto and realty stocks, while investors awaited a central bank policy meet due this week. The S&P BSE Sensex and CNX Nifty rose 0.21%-0.30% each.

Sensex closed at 29974.24, up by 64.02 points or by 0.21%, while the NSE Nifty ended at 9265.15 gained by 27.30 points by 0.30%.

Global Market:

Stocks fell and bonds rose in Asia on Thursday, with risk appetite soured by signs the Federal Reserve might start paring its king-sized balance sheet later this year just as the chances of an early US fiscal stimulus faded further.

Wall Street ended lower on Wednesday after a late-afternoon reversal following signals from the Federal Reserve that it could change its bond investment policy this year, quenching a rally sparked by a strong private-sector jobs report.

Bourses in Europe closed mixed on Wednesday with oil and mining stocks making gains, while auto stocks declined on weaker U.S. sales.

Trend in FII flows: The FIIs were net buyers of Rs 340.13 the cash segment on Wednesday  while the DIIs were net sellers of Rs -194.05 as per the provisional figures.
