Bullish start likely for Sensex and Nifty

Indian Indices:

Indian equities are likely to open higher on Friday, tracking firm cues from Asian peers as investors were buoyed by strong rally in US markets after the European Central Bank trimmed the size of monthly asset-buying programme, with a pledge to maintain quantitative easing beyond 2017, if required.

The market may also see some buying from foreign portfolio investors, who have turned net buyers In December so far after flushing nearly Rs 23,000 crore in last two months. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) net bought shares worth Rs 193.66 crore yesterday, according to provisional data available with exchange.

The 30-share benchmark index closed trade at 26694.28, up by 457.41 points or by 1.74 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8246.85, up by 144.8 points or by 1.79 per cent.

Global Market:

Asian shares flatlined on Friday but were on track for robust weekly gains, while the euro caught its breath after sliding when the European Central Bank trimmed the size of its asset purchase program and also extended it for longer than many had expected.

Hong Kong stocks rose for the third straight session on Thursday, drawing some support from Wall Street although demand was tempered by weakness in mainland shares after China's falling foreign exchange reserves deepened capital outflow concerns.

European shares rose to their highest in eleven months on Thursday as the European Central Bank's unexpected decision to cut its monthly asset purchases helped banks extend their rally.

KPR Mills approves buyback of 9.95% equity at max price of Rs660 per share.

Trend in FII flows: The FIIs were net buyers of Rs 698.86 Cr in the cash segment on Thursday while the DIIs were net sellers of Rs -64.32 Cr, as per the provisional figures.
