NEW DELHI: Equity markets opened lower on Wednesday, tracking weakness in global stocks, and within the first 30 minutes of trade over 30 stocks including Amtek Auto, Bhushan Steel, Centrum Capital and IDFC Bank hit fresh 52-week lows on NSE.
Jaypee Infratech, Lloyds Steels Industries, Magadh Sugar & Energy, Nagarjuna Oil Refinery, Omkar Speciality Chemicals, SRS and Reliance Naval and Engineering also figured among the stocks that hit fresh 52-week lows on NSE.
Equity markets were in the red following weakness in the global equities after the US bond yields rose above 3 per cent.
Boiling global crude oil prices too dented sentiment at domestic level.
Selling was seen in all sectors, but IT was bucking the trend. IT majors, Wipro, TCS and Infosys were trading with gains.
The Nifty50 index was 13 points down at 10,601, while the BSE Sensex was 56 points down at 34,561 around 9:50 am (IST).
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 18 were in the green, while 32 were in the red.
Bharti Airtel, tech Mahindra and Wipro were leading the pack of Nifty gainers.
GAIL, HindalcoNSE -1.29 % and NTPCNSE -1.71 %, on the other hand, were the top drags on the index.
